Spray Foam Insulation 316 Insulation

316 Insulation is sprayed on-site in homes and buildings as a liquid, which expands up to 30-60 times its liquid volume after being applied. This makes it a flexible product that conforms to the unique design of any building structure and covers all nooks, crannies, and gaps. The result is a highly insulating home, keeping occupants warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Spray foam is made of a combination of two materials that form during a chemical reaction, called isocyanate and polyol resin. This results in an insulating foam with high thermal r-value (the higher the r-value, the better the insulation) and virtually no air infiltration.

Besides providing excellent insulating value, spray foam also acts as a sound barrier and can be used to seal the gaps between building components and minimize water leaks. It can also stop ice dams by preventing air movement up into the attic space, which can cause the buildup of ice on the roof deck.

There are two types of spray foam insulation: open and closed cells. Open-cell foams have small pockets that aren’t completely enclosed, which is why they can absorb more moisture than closed-cell foam. However, they also create an air barrier that’s very effective in stopping air movement and reducing energy bills.

Closed-cell foams are dense and have a smooth finish. They offer more R-value than open-cell foams, and they don’t absorb as much moisture. They’re best for walls and ceilings. However, they’re not as pliable as open-cell spray foams and require more support to prevent warping or shrinkage.
